Our fall program has reached capacity. We are so grateful for the continued support and interest in the Fit Girls program at Village. However, for safety reasons and to best provide the most effective program, we are not able to accommodate everyone who wishes to participate this fall.
If you would like to be added to the waitlist, please email us at fitgirlsMHD@gmail.com and we will be in touch if a spot becomes available.

Village School Fall Fit Girls Details
Fit Girls Run Club Fall 2016 session is starting
soon!
Registration opens on September 19
The Fit Girls Run Club is an independent
running and reading program for Village School girls in 4th, 5th and 6th grades
that builds self-esteem and confidence, and helps girls connect with and give
back to their community. Girls progress at their own “just right” pace,
while also participating in our educational curriculum that includes topics
such as goal setting, self-esteem, confidence, teamwork, and more. The program is open and welcoming to all
girls and no prior running experience is necessary.
The bulk of the
program consists of non-competitive workouts designed to gradually and safely
build endurance to run or walk the 5k (3.1 mile) race distance. At the conclusion of the program the girls
participate in a 5k as they celebrate both fitness and community. The program
also aims to build self-esteem and confidence through the regular group
discussions, and promotes supportive and positive relationships among all
participants. It is important that all
participants are willing to work towards accomplishing a 5k fitness goal! For
the program to work, participants need to be excited and motivated. Please have a conversation with your daughter
before registering to ensure this is a choice and commitment she would like to
make.
PROGRAM DETAILS:
When: The Marblehead group will meet
Tuesday and Thursday from 2:45-4:00PM from September 27-November 15. We meet rain or shine. There is no Fit Girls if there is no
school. The curriculum and training are
much more beneficial and meaningful when girls are committed to attending both
days so 2 day participation will be
mandatory. If there are more than 3
unexcused absences, future participation will be reviewed.
Where: We meet in the
Village cafeteria and train on the track and on the sidewalks around Village.
Cost: $75.00
– (for training program, race entry, program supplies and Fit Girls shirt). Please
note that scholarships are available. Please contact us at fitgirlsMHD@gmail.com for more information.

IMPORTANT DATES~Mark your calendars now:
5k Race: Full Hearts 5k on November 13 at 9am at the
Village School
VOLUNTEERS:
We are seeking
volunteers to help as coaches again this season. We ask that coaches commit to attending at a
minimum of one day per week but can certainly attend two. A regular schedule ensures we have enough
coaches each session to help out. Running
experience is not necessary! Please
email us if you are able to be involved this session.

Spring 2016 information
Registration for our Spring 2016 season will begin at 9am on April 1! We are ready to get going on our FIFTH year at the Village School and look forward to another fun, rewarding, healthy season!
Details
The program will run from April 26-June 7. The program trains the Fit Girls to complete a 5k race at the conclusion of the program, and includes reading and community service as part of the curriculum. The program will begin Tuesday, April 26 and will meet on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:45-4:00pm. Participation on both days is required as the curriculum and training is much more beneficial and effective when there is a commitment to both days. There is no Fit Girls if there is no school or a half day, and we will meet RAIN or SHINE.
Participation
Participation in Fit Girls involves running/walking at each session. It is important the girls who participate are willing to work toward that fitness goal so please have a conversation with your daughter about her willingness and desire to sign up to ensure she is excited about the program, and to ensure this a a choice and commitment she would like to make! Girls should be committed to fully participating to the best of their own individual ability each week. For the program to be beneficial, it's important for the girls to be vested in putting forth their best selves in both the running and curriculum pieces of the program.
We will be drawing up a contract with the girls the first week regarding effort, participation, preparation and behavior during Fit Girls so expectations are clear for Fit Girls, parents, and volunteer coaches.
Volunteers
Fit Girls needs active and enthusiastic parents to help on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Our group size is dependent on the number of volunteers we have for safety reasons. Parent volunteers may be asked to lead group conversations, take attendance or monitor early dismissal/late runners, act as a partner during practice, supervise/monitor Fit Girls runs, etc. All volunteers must have an up to date CORI form and fingerprinting on file, and commit to attending throughout the season. Prior running experience is not required...only a commitment to the Fit Girls MHD mission! Volunteers are asked to commit to attending at least one day per week, maintaining a consistent and regular schedule (i.e., attending every Tuesday for 6 weeks). Please let us know if you have any questions!
Race
The Fit Girls will participate in the 5th Annual Run for the Fund that starts and finishes at Devereux Beach. The race will be held on Sunday, June 5 at 9am. Please mark your calendars now!
Registration
Enrollment is expected to fill and is capped for safety and liability. If registration fills, we will start a waiting list for interested participants. No exceptions can be made so please register early! The registration fee is $75. Scholarships are available. Please contact us at fitgirlsMHD@gmail.com for more information.
T-Shirt Sizing
Please use the attached chart to choose the correct sizing for your daughter's Fit Girls shirt. We order based on the size chosen during registration and therefore exchanges can be difficult! Please note there is an XS available that is not included in the sizing chart. It is safe to assume that the A-Width is 13".

Spring 2016 Volunteers Needed
Spring Fit Girls season is just around the corner! Without the time and energy of our parent volunteers, Fit Girls is not possible, so we are beginning our recruitment for the coming season. Volunteers assist with small group discussions and helping to coach the running groups, though no experience is necessary! All you need is some excitement about what Fit Girls brings to our girls! We ask that volunteer coaches commit to a minimum of one day per week, attending the same day each of the 6 weeks of the program. Having a set schedule allows us the opportunity to plan discussion groups and training groups and most importantly, to know we have enough adults each day to run a safe and effective program.
We will begin this session on April 26 and will run until
June 7. The Run for the Fund is our goal
race, which will be held on June 5 at 9am.
If you can volunteer, please complete the following link as soon as
possible. The number of volunteers we
have is directly correlated to the number of girls that can participate so it’s
important for us to get our volunteers lined up in advance of registration.
All volunteers must have completed CORI and fingerprinting complete prior to the session beginning.
